Time to Transform Our Communities Background Material
There
is a host of background material to dealing with social exclusion
and delivering neighbourhood projects both on the web and in paper
publications.
For more information on social exclusion amongst young people in Britain, visit the Government's
Social Exclusion Unit website.
Included in this Transform Our Communities website is a brief definition of Social Exclusion, an excellent report
by the Policy Action Team on Skills, which includes the key
recommendation that the key priority is working with local people
to improve their skills and taking a broader view of skills that
are relevant. I have also extracted some of the information on
skills that
are needed for employability, a key area of need in addressing
social exclusion. The report also contains an interesting area
case study of work in Moss Side and Hulme in the late 1990’s
along with some pointed comments on issues emerging.
In addition,
there is a copy of our
background audit for this project, which identifies both the
demographic need for churches to deliver projects but also the potential for them to do so. This should be looked at in conjunction with Faith in Two Cities: The contribution of Anglican & Methodist churches to civil society in Manchester & Salford, and the conclusions drawn from
both reports.
